On Dec. 8, in the In-patient
Department of Thyroid and Breast
at the Zhongnan Hospital of
Wuhan University, Wu Yanxi, an
8-year-old boy, chatted with his
father, who was suffering from
uremia, while massaging his legs.
"Dad, we're going home today.
Please get better soon so that we
can go out and play together."
Beaming, Wu Kun, the boy's
father, agreed with a nod.

Wu Kun, aged 33, has been
suffering from uremia for seven
years. Diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism half a year
ago, he has difficulty walking. In
November 2021, Wu Kun and his
son set out from Laifeng County,
Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous
Prefecture, to Wuhan to see a
doctor. Because of his father's
physical weakness, Wu Yanxi
handled all the admission procedures on his own.
While diligently taking care of his father, the boy still
retains his lively and optimistic
personality. He has brain
teasers for the nurses and
invites people to watch him play games on his mobile
phone. Noticing the depression
of his father, he would pick up
a cow puppet and wave it in
front of his father to encourage
him, "Be brave, dad! You will
overcome any difficulty."
